Submission Details

Aequitas Journal of Economics publishes original essays written by strong high school students. Joint authorship is permitted. We accept all forms of academic writing, although research papers will be favored in the review process.

Submission Deadlines

Aequitas Journal of Economics publishes two issues per year, in the fall and spring.

Submissions are accepted according to the following schedule:

Fall:

• Priority Deadline of August 1st.

• Final Submission Deadline of August 25th.

Spring:

• Priority Deadline of January 1st.

• Final Submission Deadline of February 25th.

Essays submitted by the priority deadline will receive earlier consideration and may have greater opportunity for revision prior to publication.

All submissions received by the final deadline will be considered for the upcoming issue. Manuscripts submitted after this date may be considered for the following issue.

Authors will be notified of editorial decisions following completion of the review process.

Essay Requirements:

Essays should generally be 4,000–8,000 words, excluding references, though longer submissions may be considered.

Submissions must:

• Be written in English

• Include a title page with the essay title, author name(s), school or institution (optional), abstract (100-250 words) and word count

• Consistently use one citation style (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.)

• Use one consistent font family throughout the document

• Be submitted as a single document

Charts, figures, and tables may be included where relevant.

Submission Process:

Make a copy of your essay in Google Docs, share the copy (not your original) with aequitasjournalofeconomics@gmail.com with editing access, and submit the copy's link through the submission form on this website.

Please submit only one essay per form.

Originality and Academic Integrity:

Submissions must represent the author’s original work and may not have been previously published or be under consideration by another journal, conference, or publication at the time of submission. Authors must notify the editorial board if the manuscript is submitted elsewhere during the review process.

Aequitas Journal of Economics maintains a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism, fabrication of data, falsification of results, or misrepresentation of sources. All sources must be properly cited and clearly distinguished from the author’s original contributions.

Empirical submissions must include a replication package (code and data) before acceptance; where data are proprietary or restricted, authors must document access and limitations

AI Use and Disclosure Policy

Aequitas permits authors to use generative AI tools, provided every use is disclosed specifically and the author remains fully responsible for the work.

Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Every author must be able to explain and defend each claim, calculation, and source in the paper.

Disclosure: Any use beyond basic spelling and grammar checking must be disclosed in a statement published with the paper, naming the tool and the tasks it performed. Authors are encouraged to also note the sections affected and how they verified the output. General statements such as "AI helped write this paper" will be returned for revision.

Not accepted: Undisclosed AI-generated text, arguments, or analysis; citations the author has not personally read; and data or figures fabricated by an AI tool rather than computed from real sources.

Verification: Editors may request drafts or AI conversation logs. Undisclosed use may result in rejection or retraction.

Example: "The author used Claude (Anthropic) to edit grammar in Sections 2 and 3 and to debug Python code for the regression in Section 4. The author reviewed and verified all outputs. No AI tool generated the paper's argument, analysis, or sources."

Authorship and Conflicts of Interest:

All listed authors must have made a meaningful intellectual contribution to the manuscript and must approve the final version submitted.

Authors should disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that could reasonably influence the research.

Authors retain copyright. Articles are published under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 unless otherwise noted.

Review Process:

Every submission is first screened by the editorial board. Submissions that pass screening are refereed by an outside reviewer, typically a university economist or an economics teacher, for originality, analytical rigor, research quality, and clarity of argument. Empirical papers may be checked by rerunning the author's code and data. Most accepted papers require at least one round of revision before publication.

Publication Rights:

Authors retain copyright in their work. By submitting, authors grant Aequitas Journal of Economics a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and archive the essay in the journal and on its website.
